and Super Brothers by Guitar Vader, where I didnt understand the lyrics at all at first time, so I cant botch them here.
What do these song lines have in common? They are in Jet Set Radio (the Steam version). Also, every song on the Jet Set Radio OSt is great, I didnt want to play favorites, these were just the first that came to mind.
I actually had this on my Wishlist for years cause it looked interesting, I think it was only 7€, but I still wanted to wait for a sale, cause why not.
I think it never went on Sale and I just forgot about it, but then!
I picked it up after hearing SEGA would delist these classic, along with Crazy Taxi
I didnt want to support them doing this, and I'm sad the game wont be available for purchase, which means people won't be able to experience it,
legally. Im a fan of buying and supporting media I like and also, having it on Steam and using Proton on Linux is very pleasant.
So, I got it. And my verdict??
Its awesome! :D
I might not be the best at the game, but its fun! It just feels nice. The awesome music and the visuals just create a feeling, which, after getting into, you cant shake.
Its just such an unique and cool experience! I think where I really lost my marbles (in a good way) when I came to the US levels and it started that super hard Rob Zombie track. (Dragula)
That was just a peak moment in the game.
The character selection screen. They all have pretty rad and unique designs. Mew and Cube are my favorites; for racking up High Scores Ive used Gum.
The beginning was rough one me though, Im playing most of my games with my Xbox 360 Controller (didnt have rumble cause I screwed some with the driver cause with issues on Hollow Knight, which I will not get into here further)
The tutorial, I screwed around in the stage a bit but I found the things asked harder than the actual game, and I think I still dont know how to nicely chain combos sometimes/Im just somewhat bad at JSR XD
But it doesnt matter, its fun! You have to give it a chance though; I struggled a lot on the early Love Shockers Level where you had to jump across that one gap with the crane, took me a while to get that down, also, dying and not knowing stuff. Didnt know I could spray Onishima so he stops harassing me.
Onishima! Lets get into the story somewhat first; you play as a pack of punks called the GGs, in the game they call the people of all the gangs "rudies".
You spray the streets of Tokyo-to with your graffiti, spraying over your rivals grafitti, and the police will not hesitate to stop your madness. Later there is some more story but I dont want to spoil everything.
Onishima is the police commander, and he will shoot you. With an actual gun. Like most of his colleagues. I think his mad voice makes it feel even more thrilling, if you take a look at this clip, you will understand what I mean (Timestamp 1:10). He will blow you away with tanks. For graffiting. If that isnt fucking cool, I dont know what is.
JUST GET THOSE PUNKS!!! >:D
Of course, you also have the name giving radio station, Jet Set Radio with the cool DJ Professor K guiding you through the game c:
I could gush about this game for a while, but I think Ill stop for now, I hope I havent forgotten anything.
Ive been emulating and trying Jet Set Radio Future too after getting a bit tired of regular JSR,
the game isnt that long and you can repeat the story after completion. I cant say that much about it cause im only an hour in but it has also been very nice.
JSR its definitely a super cool experience and Im sad it has gotten very inaccessible. I have the feeling they dont make games like these no more, they still make great games, games I love, but not like this.
I think JSR aged incredibly well, on the Steam Version I played Full HD no problem, and it still feels somewhat modern and good to control, even though it has some of the clunkyness and glitchness you would expect from a Dreamcast game.
Nothing that seriously hinders the fun though :> I was also pretty impressed that you can make your own graffitis. I actually just checked, the game released in the year 2000, its not THAT old, but still.
Jet Set Radio Future was only released for the Original Xbox, which is again a shame; the accessibility isnt that good.
I followed this thread on Reddit to get it working
